WATCHING OVER OUR NATIONS HEROES
The Bakersfield National Cemetery is a final resting place for the men and women who have dedicated
themselves to preserving the freedom of the United States of America. The cemetery is situated on 500 acres of oak studded rolling hills donated by Tejon Ranch Company.
A place of quiet solitude deserving only to those who have served this great country. A place where family, friends and comrades come to reflect and remember their heroes.
SPONSORS
The Bakersfield National Cemetery Support Committee is up and running! We exist to provide support to our new Bakersfield National Cemetery, which is a resting place for our nation’s heroes.
We are meeting monthly except in December, and have one more meeting in 2010 – all are invited to attend. The next meeting will be Monday November 29th at 5PM at the Veteran’s Service Center, 1120 Golden State Avenue, Bakersfield, CA
93301. Our 2011 meeting dates are the 4th Monday of each month except December, 5PM at the Veteran’s Service Center. The dates are: January 24, February 28, March 28, April 25, May 23, June 27, July 25, August 22, September 19, October 24, and November 28th.
We’ve held our first Memorial Day event this year and anticipate one every Memorial Day weekend.
We have many volunteer opportunities, here are some examples:
* We are looking for a website coordinator
* Through our Friends of Fallen Heroes program, we make sure that volunteers
are present at every unattended service to honor each veteran. Are you willing
to attend some services for veterans who don’t have any family members or
friends present? Consider helping with this very special volunteer opportunity.
* We are looking for an artist/civil engineer to help with an artist’s
rendering of the memorial walkway
* We will be funding the memorial walkway and will be soliciting donations as
this project moves closer.
* Interested in helping with the history of the Bakersfield National Cemetery? We are looking for a historian.
* Willing to assist the committee by serving as an officer? We have taken some nominations at the last meeting but will be open for additional nominations at our November 29th meeting.
* We are looking for someone to file our tax paperwork. We have 501(c(3) status as a nonprofit.
* The Bakersfield Breakfast Rotary Club is sponsoring the Wreaths Across America holiday event – see their website at www.bakersfieldwreathproject.org.
The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on Saturday, December 11th at 8:30AM (live patriotic music starts at 8AM). Come join us! We will be joining 450 state and national cemeteries in simultaneously observing a moment of silence during the program. At the end of this message is more information about the Wreaths Across America event
As you can tell, we have much going on. Consider getting involved in any way that interests you. Help us to support the Bakersfield National Cemetery and our nation’s veterans and their families.
